With Betty Nicholson & Lyn Panetta
Brisbane music educators and accompanists Betty Nicholson and Lyn Panetta met in their teens while they were studying music at the University of Queensland, and it was there that they discovered the magic and fun of playing two piano works together.
They have explored many two-piano arrangements from the repertoire and performed Holst’s The Planets at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium in 2022 (Planets, Pianos and Projections) and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition at the Petrie Terrace Art Gallery in 2023 (Pictures, Pianos and Portrayals) as part of both the Anywhere and Brisbane Fringe Festivals. In 2024, they performed a programme of French works for 2 pianos at the Old Museum.
Random Rhapsodies features musical arrangements of Butterworth’s A Shropshire Lad, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Liszt’s Hungarian and Spanish Rhapsodies, Lutoslawski’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini [movements 16-18], all brought to life on two pianos.
