My Fatherland
Presented by Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra
Metro Concert #2
Ma Vlast (My Fatherland) and Sibelius’s Second Symphony come together as a celebration of far-off lands.
Opening with the harpsong of the mythic bard Lumír, Prague’s castle, Vysehrad, looks down on the river Vltava (or Moldau) in Smetana’s ode to his native land of Bohemia. Soloist Emily Granger then takes centre stage for the elegant and refined Morceau de Concert by Saint-Saens, in which the harp luxuriates in true French style.
Sibelius’s achingly beautiful Symphony No. 2 is, in his own words, a “confession of the soul”. The work opens with a simple three-note motif, and ends with a power and majesty that has grown from the roots of what came before.
Conductor: Steven Moore
Soloist: Emily Granger (Harp)
PROGRAM:
Smetana | Vysehrad and Moldau (from Ma Vlast)
Saint-Saens | Morceau de Concert, Op. 154

Danny Widdicombe and Trichotomy
Presented by Futurfonic
Following the success of their acclaimed 2020 collaboration Between the Lines, renowned guitarist and songwriter Danny Widdicombe and celebrated jazz trio Trichotomy are back with their new album, IRIDESCENCE. This latest project is a stunning blend of jazz, modern soul and funk —an album that showcases the seamless musical chemistry between Widdicombe and the trio.
“This album feels like such a natural collaboration,” says Danny Widdicombe. “We didn’t really plan out a lot of the music... we had some sketches of songs and just went into the studio. The songs took their shape throughout the session.”
Known for his work with The Wilson Pickers and his acclaimed solo releases, Widdicombe’s distinctive songwriting and masterful guitar playing merge effortlessly with the bold improvisational energy of Trichotomy—featuring pianist Sean Foran, drummer John Parker, and bassist Samuel Vincent. The trio, whose past releases include Fact Finding Mission and Known-Unknown, are recognized for their innovative approach to the trio format, incorporating elements of post-rock, ambient music, and cinematic textures. Their last release To Vanish received critical acclaim, with Jazz Views noting, “Trichotomy’s music has always been vibrant, textural, and smart... The album shows the trio and their new musical partners pushing boundaries and exploring new territories.”
While deeply rooted in jazz, IRIDESCENCE also draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists and genres. Echoes of The Meters’ groove-heavy funk, the soulful warmth of Leon Bridges and Ray LaMontagne, the atmospheric storytelling of Thomas Dybdahl, the dynamic energy of Tingsek & the grooves of Khruangbin weave their way through the album. This fusion of influences creates a sound that is rich, textured, and unbound by genre, offering listeners something truly unique.
“Working with Danny is completely different from all the other collaborations we’ve done,” says pianist Sean Foran. “There’s scope in the music for us to be really creative, but it challenges us to respond to his ideas, lyrics and songwriting craft. These are beautiful songs that really stay with you”.
Building on the foundations of Between the Lines, IRIDESCENCE is a deeper exploration of sonic interplay, with rich harmonies, evocative melodies and lyrics, and a fearless approach to composition and improvisation. With each track, the group pushes their creative boundaries, blurring genres and redefining contemporary jazz & soul.
A must-listen for fans of adventurous, genre-defying music, IRIDESCENCE cements Danny Widdicombe + Trichotomy as one of the most compelling collaborative projects in the Australian music scene today.

Daniel Champagne - 2025 Tour
Presented by The Harbour Agency
Daniel Champagne lives and breathes live music. Recently described as “the finest guitar player of this generation” the young virtuoso delivers an experience that must be seen to be believed and after years of relentless touring all over the world, he will spend 2025 back in his homeland of Australia bringing intimate concerts to all corners of the country.
Growing up in the Bega Valley on the Far South Coast of New South Wales, the story goes that the young singer-songwriter and one of a kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a 5-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing wherever he could, honing his craft and developing the dynamic live show that he is renowned for today. At 18 he finished school, turned professional and hit the road without looking back.
The following 15 years have seen him release 7 studio albums, sell out concerts all over the globe, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, INXS, John Butler, Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Judy Collins and Rodrigo y Gabriela.
He has been described as “a leading light in acoustic music” and “an ambassador for the guitar around the world” and is putting roots down back home in Australia where it all began.
WHAT THE PRESS SAY..
“The word Prodigy seems to entirely fall short of this soft-spoken young man’s skills, he coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws.” The Calgary Herald, CANADA
“Today I saw the future of Folk – Festival goers flocking in the thousands towards the main stage to witness a young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper.” The Firefly Column, USA
“Daniel Champagne is a crossroads. Fusing the strong traditions of Blues, Folk and other roots art with pop showmanship and admirable lyrical ability. I firmly believe that he will become an ambassador for roots music in a time where it desperately needs representation.” The Indie Blender, CANADA
“reinventing roots guitar” Rhythms Magazine, AUSTRALIA
“Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once in a lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy that plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art.” BW Review, NEW ZEALAND
“Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical” TheMusic, AUSTRALIA
"You feel as if he just invented the instrument yesterday and was discovering its possibilities afresh” Ted Gioia (American jazz critic and music historian)

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Wilkinson, celebrates the release of his forthcoming album "Wild & Hunted Things" with a string of dates across the country this August and September.
With a career that spans over a decade, Wilkinson has cemented himself as one of Australia’s premiere acts with his soul stirring live performances and evocative songwriting. As a support act he's shared stages with Brian Wilson, Rodriguez, Xavier Rudd, The Whitlams and Seal to name just a few.

Fate
Presented by Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra
Metro Concert #3
Tchaikovsky wrote of his Fourth Symphony:
“...This is Fate, the fatal power that hinders one in the pursuit of happiness from gaining the goal, which jealously provides that peace and comfort do not prevail, that the sky is not free from clouds—a might that swings, like the sword of Damocles, constantly over the head that poisons the soul.”
Night on Bald Mountain opens the concert with that same tumult of energy contained in the Fourth, with Mussorgsky’s depiction of a witches’ sabbath. Soloist Courtenay Cleary continues with the Queensland premiere of contemporary American composer Jennifer Higdon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Violin Concerto, with its insistent, dexterous passages drawing the listener to the edge of their seat. The concert concludes with the immense Fourth Symphony, sonorous and demanding.
PROGRAM:

Higdon | Violin Concerto

Chords of Time:Legacy of Five Tones 風雅頌合
Chords of Time —— Concert 風雅頌合 Ballads, Hymns, Eulogies
Enter a world where music once echoed through ancient courts, drifted across riverside villages, and rose with incense in sacred rituals.
Inspired by Feng, Ya, and Song — the poetic foundations of one of China's oldest literary treasures — this performance brings to life a musical tradition few in the West have encountered.
Through live music, voice, and dance, this performance reimagines those ancient sounds for the modern stage. Traditional Chinese instruments blend with Western elements such as piano, cello, and contemporary compositional techniques — creating a rich fusion of rhythm, ritual, and reflection.
Whether you're new to Chinese music or already enchanted by its beauty, this is a rare chance to discover one of the world’s oldest musical-poetic traditions — and to feel its quiet power, mystery, and elegance unfold before you.

Mahler’s Fifth
Presented by Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra
Metro Concert #4
Chris Williams opens BPO’s final concert of the year with the Concerto for Didgeridoo by Queensland composer Sean O’Boyle. The work makes use of the improvisational aspect of traditional didgeridoo playing, and was created in partnership with William Barton using the elements of Earth, Water, Wind and Fire as a foundation for each movement.
From the opening notes to the final coda, Mahler’s Fifth is a symphony that speaks directly to the soul. Experience “this primeval music, this foaming, roaring, raging sea of sound…” that Mahler despaired of, writing and rewriting it for a decade while desperately striving to portray something he saw as an inexorable part of his soul, laid bare to the world.
PROGRAM:
O’Boyle | Concerto for Didgeridoo
Mahler | Symphony No. 5

Denis Carnahan’s Cricket the musical
RISING FROM THE ASHES OF BAZBALL
After a triumphant tour earlier this year, Denis Carnahan is bringing his hilarious one man cult hit musical comedy show Cricket The Musical back to The Old Museum on December 2nd, as part of his Rising From The Ashes Of Bazball national tour of 2025/26, following the visiting English cricket team around the country .
The 2025/26 cricket season is destined to be filled with controversy and pantomime, from the World Test Championship to the West Indies series, followed by the always hilarious touring English Cricketers. They’re still smarting from the Farce of the Wandering Bairstow, and sure to bring the slapstick of Bazball. Add to that the drama of last season’s Indian shoulder charges and send offs and the burlesque of the Big Bash, and you have more comic narratives than any music theatre librettist could ever dream of!
Australia’s hardest working musical sports satirist uses his unique satirical spin to review it all, along with the game’s history of treachery, villainy, facial hair, and illegal abrasives. For almost two decades, Carnahan has been producing songs and parodies about the many colourful characters and controversies Australian sport produces. They go to air weekly on the ABC, and have previously featured on The Footy Show, Fox Sports, Triple M and many more. His songs about Stuart Broad’s sportsmanship, MCC selection policies, Mitchell Johnson’s moustache, and other sports have had millions of hits on YouTube.
Prepare yourself to boo the villains and cheer the heroes as Cricket The Musical brings the songs to life on stage, with videos, sketches and caricatures celebrating the many controversies of this summer’s matches.

Refracted
Presented by voxalis opera and southern cross soloists
Just as light refracts and disperses through a prism, revealing a spectrum of colors, the human soul is layered with emotions and experiences that make each of us unique. Explore the chromaticism of humankind in this one-night-only performance featuring Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, reimagined for string quartet and voice, alongside Arvo Pärt’s unique chamber and vocal works, including Fratres, Spiegel im Spiegel, and My Heart’s in the Highlands.
A turning point in Mahler’s compositional journey, Rückert-Lieder reflects themes of love, solitude, and contentment, anticipating his later masterpieces. In this rare arrangement, each song becomes an intimate universe, where voice and strings intertwine with unparalleled poignancy. Pärt’s minimalist style creates a transformative stillness, suspending time with music of breathtaking simplicity and depth. THE STEMS
West Australian garage rock legends The Stems made a triumphant return to the live stage to celebrate their 40th anniversary in August and September of 2024 with a series sold out shows across Australia and Europe. The hugely successful tour meant that some fans missed out on tickets, so back by public demand, original members, Dom Mariani, Julian Matthews, and Dave Shaw and acclaimed guitarist Ashley Naylor (Even/Paul Kelly/The Church) are set to do again in late April with a run of selective shows across the east coast of Australia.
The Stems attained their own legendary status in the Australian and International music scene – roaring out of Perth with a sound and style that definitively captured the spirit and enthusiasm of sixties garage music - lurching fuzz-tone guitars, brooding organ, solid gold garage-punk, and primo power pop! The Stems not only created a distinctive sonic identity but also penned unforgettable songs while delivering electrifying live performances.
In the late '80s, The Stems achieved acclaim with a series of singles and EPs and the timeless 'At First Sight – Violet are Blue' LP in 1987. The group disbanded in late 1987 and made a significant comeback in 2003, playing to sold-out crowds nationwide. Since then, they have continued to tour regularly in front of audiences across Australia, Europe, Japan, and the United States.

Hitting pause briefly in 2016, with Coates releasing her first solo album, Taasha Coates and Her Melancholy Sweethearts, The Audreys continued to share their musical magic and tour up until the COVID years hit; and, devastatingly, The Audreys journey changed irrevocably in 2022 with the untimely passing of Goodall. But for Coates, the chance to continue The Audreys creative pursuits is also a chance to pay ongoing homage to Goodall, with The Audreys also celebrating 20 years in 2024 since Coates and Goodall first started the project, and The Audreys now courageously venturing into a brand new chapter; and it’s one that will joyfully include some extensive Australian touring kicking off not long after brand new album; Ruin & Repair releases into the world.
“I’ve overcome a lot of hurdles to get to this point and I’m really gosh darn happy to be here!” Taasha Coates reveals. “We have a whole national tour coming up starting at the end of March and running right through until June. It will be lots of songs from the new album and lots of old Audreys favourites. Can’t wait!”

barry adamson
with Special Guest - McKisko
Barry Adamson has been creating all of his life.
Brought up in Manchester’s Moss Side, Adamson learnt to play the bass overnight for Magazine, Manchester’s most influential band of that era.
When they disbanded, five albums later in 1981, his singular style was spotted by The Birthday Party, with whom he played several times.
His establishment as a solo artist came after a three-year stint with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds with the release of his classic first solo album, Moss Side Story – the ultimate soundtrack to an “imaginary film” – which raised Adamson’s name as a composer of diverse complexity; able to tell a story with music, where the images were those supplanted in the minds of the listeners. Adamson has worked with some of the film industry’s most intriguing mavericks including Derek Jarman (The Last of England, 1987), David Lynch (The Lost Highway, 1997), Oliver Stone (Natural Born Killers, 1994) and Danny Boyle (The Beach, 2000).
Having released nine studio albums, including the 1992 Mercury Music Prize nominated Soul Murder, 1996’s Oedipus Schmoedipus, which includes collaborations with Jarvis Cocker, Nick Cave and The Associates’ Billy McKenzie, and his most recent release, Know Where To Run, which was in part inspired by a US tour, playing with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.
After 32 years, Adamson’s talents are as much demand by new generations of artists as he was after his first solo release, with collaborations in recent years across a variety of art forms, including an Olivier Award winning ballet performance by Sylvie Guillem and the Ballet Boyz scored by Adamson.
It was always a logical progression for Adamson to move behind the camera and once again his brooding film noir style and dark comedy has seen him write, direct and score a number of short films, including ‘The Swing The Hole and The Lie’’ (2014) as well as the 2017 video for They Walk Amongst Us.
Barry Adamson’s most recent release ‘Memento Mori’ (Anthology 1978-2018), brings together the artist’s writing and recording career over the last 40 years charting his career from 1978’s Magazine track, ‘Parade’ (co-written by Adamson, from their debut album Real Life); to his work as founding member, alongside Nick Cave, of the Bad Seeds (‘From Her To Eternity’, co-written by Adamson); through his nine solo albums, from 1989’s Moss Side Story to the latest Love Sick Dick EPs, bringing everything up to date with a brand new unreleased track, ‘The Hummingbird’.
Barry Adamson’s memoir ‘Up Above The City, Down Beneath The Stars’ is published by Omnibus Press on 30 September 2021.
Musician, composer, writer, photographer, filmmaker. Barry Adamson is not a man to take it easy.

The East pointers
Adding to their volumes of East Coast myth-making, The East Pointers’ forthcoming anthology of celebratory anthems and incendiary tune sets is a natural evolution of playing to ‘hometown’ crowds of thousands the world over, full family kitchen parties and an honest reckoning with heartbreak and victory.
Still channeling Koady Chaisson as a writing partner, Tim Chaisson (fiddle, vocals, guitar) and Jake Charron (keys, guitar, vocals) have alchemised the love, grief and experience of years of musical map-making, traveling, partying and friendship into an album that captures heroic joy, sharp pain, courageous expansion, lonely challenges and triumphant homecoming.
In their ten year career, The East Pointers have gathered many accolades, winning a JUNO for their debut album Secret Victory and further nominations for their double EP House of Dreams and Safe in Sound, and multiple East Coast Music and Music PEI awards.
Alongside traveling the world and supporting their community through such initiatives as Koady’s Stay Cool Swim Cold challenge, which has raised thousands of dollars for diverse charities, and Annedemic: The East Pointers and Friends Read Anne of Green Gables, they are also the founding directors of Goolaholla! festival, a gift of love and music to Tim and Koady’s hometown of Souris.
Their base in Canada’s smallest province, Prince Edward Island, provides both inspiration and challenge, and a sensibility tempered by grueling winters, short-lived golden summers and a tight-knit community of some of the best songwriters and musicians in the world.
Confidently grounded by the band’s traditional roots and spotlighting their most honest songwriting to date in an album that is jubilant, entrancing and frank by turns, The East Pointers continue their legacy of packing the dancefloor while celebrating the Sisyphian task of being human.

ruthie foster - heartshine australian tour
2025 Grammy® award winner for Best Contemporary Blues Album and winner of several Blues Music Awards, Ruthie Foster's musical journey is as eclectic and vibrant as her soulful voice.
Born into a family steeped in gospel tradition, Ruthie's earliest influences were the voices of her mother, grandmother, and the gospel singers she grew up listening to — artists like the Gospel Keynotes and the Blind Boys of Alabama. However, her path to becoming a solo artist wasn't a straightforward one. Despite a deep love for music, Ruthie initially shied away from the spotlight, preferring to play guitar, piano, and write songs for others.
Growing up in the rich musical tapestry of Gause, Texas, Ruthie found herself drawn to the diverse sounds and arrangements of local gospel choirs and musicians. Despite her reluctance to take centre stage, Ruthie's talent was undeniable, and her mother encouraged her to step up and sing out. She stood out as a young black girl with a guitar in a choir scene dominated by pianos, but with her grandmother’s vocal coaching and encouragement from her mother and the church community, she recognised her own power — as a songwriter, a musician, and as a captivating singer.
Now, with a new album, Mileage, recently released on Sun Records, Ruthie Foster stands as a testament to the power of authenticity and resilience in music

KRISTIN HERSH
a message from troubadour -
Unfortunately we have to postpone Kristin’s show tomorrow night (Wednesday 5 March) at The Old Museum.
The impending tropical cyclone Alfred is too much of a risk to have the show go ahead.
This is absolutely not a decision made lightly.
Touring is a series of dominoes whereby each show falls directly into the next, so the knock on effect with travel & accommodation logistics has a huge impact.
We have worked closely with the venue to find an alternative date which is now FRIDAY 14 MARCH, 2025.
Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you, we really with it wasn’t this way either!
Please stay safe out there. x
Presented by troubadour presents
To celebrate the release of her acclaimed “Clear Pond Road” album, 2023 saw Kristin Hersh play her first shows in Australia for seven years. A slew of sold out dates during an east coast spring had Kristin reconnect with her favourite country in the world and convinced her that she needed to get back to play again as soon as she could.
Currently in the studio completing another Throwing Muses album for an early 2025 release, Kristin Hersh will be playing headline shows along the east coast and returning to Adelaide and Perth for the first time in a decade, as well as appearing at Port Fairy Folk and Blue Mountains Music festivals.
Troubadour Presents: Kristin Hersh Australian Tour 2025
The inimitable Kristin Hersh is a musician's musician, a songwriter's songwriter, and an innovator's innovator.
Her first band, Throwing Muses, began recording and playing out when they were just 14 years old and they're still going. Their 2020 critically acclaimed Sun Racket album was hailed as "a perfect record”.
“Hersh published an autobiography, Rat Girl: A Memoir, in 2010, and Clear Pond Road similarly looks back on her extraordinary life…like Hersh herself, the album resists convention and refuses to be pinned down. 4 stars” - Slant Magazine
"One of indie rock's most fascinating figures" - The Guardian
Wildly prolific, she has released more than 20 albums solo, with Throwing Muses and with her noise rock band, 50 Foot Wave.
She's also a celebrated author: Rolling Stone named her first book, Rat Girl, one of the ten best rock memoirs of all time.
NPR said of her second book, Don't Suck, Don't Die, "...one of the most beautiful rock memoirs ever written."
Her third, the game-changing Seeing Sideways, pushes the envelope of creative non-fiction while telling the story of raising her 4 sons on a tour bus.
Kristin’s ‘Clear Pond Road’ album is a cinematic road trip; a series of personal vignettes from a fiercely independent auteur, sitting plush with layers of all-consuming strings and mellotron. It’s a watershed moment in a career overflowing with creative firsts and inspirational thinking; an elegant piece of personal reportage, a home movie caught in time.
QUOTES ON KRISTIN HERSH
“Few artists understand the intensity of living one’s art like Hersh” - The Guardian
"Kristin Hersh is a musical genius" - Huffington Post
"A fearless rock innovator" - New York Times
“There are not many musicians who can process and distill their personal experience into art as skillfully as Hersh does, and few bodies of work can stand comparison with the series of powerful and affecting albums she has produced over the past few decades.”
- Spectrum Culture
"The work of an artist both singular and shape-shifting, always herself but never predictable"
– Uncut
"The portal to Hersh's carefully documented world of otherness" - Mojo
"A stunning, stealthy, faintly malevolent collection of songs" - Q

Travellin’ Still - THE MUSIC OF SLIM DUSTY
Presented by LAING ENTERTAINMENT
When Slim Dusty’s Travelling Country Band played their last full show with Slim in 2002, the band members all went their separate ways.
Fast-forward to 2016, at the Slim Dusty Music Festival in Kempsey, NSW, they found themselves on-stage together for the first time in years. And it felt like only yesterday as the old songs, friendships and memories came flooding back.
One comment from an audience member, “This show has to go on the road!” got them all thinking, why not? There aren’t many bands around where all the members were part of the Slim Dusty Show!
And what an experience this will be; five musicians who will be sharing stories, some of their own music and of course the songs of Slim Dusty which will sound pretty darn genuine because they’ll be played by his own band!

Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra - 5 cities for 2025.
