Katie Noonan: Alone But All One
Featuring the River Suite String Quartet
5 x ARIA Award winning artist Katie Noonan will release her 30th studio album in 2026: Alone but All One.
The album is an intimate and poignant exploration of love in all its stages and features Katie’s first songwriting collaboration with acclaimed writer Trent Dalton. The album is a powerful and delicate offering with Katie’s piano and a string quartet the only accompaniment for her exquisite vocal performance.
This album is for anyone who’s gone through a life shift - not just separation, but grief, uncertainty, or quiet reinvention." reveals Katie, "It’s music for sitting with things. For remembering we’re not alone, even in solitude. It’s personal, but I hope it will resonate in a way that becomes collective.
Alone but All One is a quiet turning inward - a return to something essential. Musically it is very stripped back - just Katie, her piano and a string quartet, recorded live in her lounge room on Gubbi Gubbi Country in the hills behind Nambour, Queensland.
It feels like a deep breath before the next chapter. The creative intention is clear: to honour this moment, share it with care, and trust that others will feel themselves in it too.

LOVE IS LOVE
Presented by Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra
Metro Concert #3
Our final concert for the year celebrates queer composers in a program that offers colour, storytelling, and rhythmic energy.
Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra pays homage to baroque composer Henry Purcell in a playful exploration that shows off the tone colours and capacities of the various sections of the symphony orchestra. Tchaikovsky and Bernstein then offer two very different perspectives on the tragic love story featured in Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. Tchaikovsky’s interpretation is dramatic, filled with both love and conflict, while Bernstein’s reimagination transports the listener to 1950s Upper West Side Manhattan and infuses Puerto Rican–inspired dance music.
The concert will also feature a newly commissioned work for orchestra by Brisbane-based composer, Joe Twist.
CONDUCTOR: David Law
NARRATOR: Ed le Brocq
PROGRAM:
Benjamin Britten | The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, Op. 34
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky | Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture
Joe Twist | New Work
Leonard Bernstein | Symphonic Dances from West Side Story

KEVIN MORBY (USA) - Little Wide Open Tour
Jet black cat & handsome Tours presents
Singer/songwriter Kevin Morby (USA) pens songs that meld Dylanesque lyrical mystique with rootsy production. Along with contemporaries like Angel Olsen and Kurt Vile, he represents a wave of sharp, indie-bred 2010s songwriters whose audiences have grown exponentially as they've come into their own.
For Kevin Morby, the “little wide open” is the big sky, the small lives, it’s his origins in the Midwest, & every duty and modesty and familiarity and isolation. “There’s something unintentionally musical about the Midwest; cicadas chirping in the trees, a train passing, a tornado siren going off,” explains Morby. “If you listen, there are these almost ominous sounds taking place beneath the wide-open sky—its ugliness and its beauty and how the two are often working together simultaneously. And while the Midwest isn’t technically the badlands, it’s my badlands.”
Little Wide Open is the title of Kevin Morby’s eighth studio album, produced by Aaron Dessner. The album, which includes a host of contributors such as Dessner, Amelia Meath, Andrew Barr, Justin Vernon, Katie Gavin, Lucinda Williams, Meg Duffy, and more, has been described by Morby as the third in a trilogy of releases, following 2020’s Sundowner and 2022’s This Is a Photograph, which catalogued his time in the Midwest after moving back to Kansas City.
Now primarily living in LA, the atmosphere that runs through Little Wide Open has changed somewhat from its predecessors. As Rachel Kushner writes of Morby in the album’s accompanying essay: “It’s about time, about feeling like he has shifted from nostalgia & the losing game, losing but beautiful, of holding onto the past. He has accepted that time is ceaselessly flowing, and you can’t stop it. Instead, he feels like he’s riding it. He’s riding passenger with time.”

FLYTE (UK)
Flyte (UK) is the project of English songwriters Will Taylor and Nick Hill. The pair met at secondary school, eventually settling in Hackney, London. Taylor’s parents were both English teachers and inevitably, various literary influences trickled into the duo’s music- the band taking it’s name from Sebastian Flyte of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited.
To make their fourth album, Between You and Me, Flyte—Will Taylor and Nick Hill—set out to return to something raw and instinctual. Just weeks before joining legendary producer Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Laura Marling, Ray LaMontagne) in his rural studio, the duo began writing at a small window table in Taylor’s North East London flat. They wanted to see what would happen if they didn’t overthink their songs, if they simply sang about their lives in the moment—candid reflections on love, fallibility, and staying vulnerable. They didn’t fuss over demos or arrangements; they just wanted to capture the feelings. They knew Johns thrived on intuition, so they let that sensibility guide them from the beginning.
The result, Between You And Me, is the most affecting and singular album in Flyte’s discography, a stirring and recognizable map of what it means to come of age as musicians, friends, and people. It suggests just how much one can grow, sprouting even from the darker corners of our existence.

Clare Cowley & the Flames – Synthetic Lover Album Launch
Special Guest: Megan Cooper

Mieko Kawakami - Sisters In Yellow
presented by avid reader
Laura Jean McKay will be in conversation with Mieko Kawakami in her first visit to Brisbane to discuss Sisters in Yellow and her entire body of work
ABOUT THE BOOK
From the International Booker Prize Shortlisted author of Heaven and Breasts and Eggs.
Hana has nothing but she's hopeful. She's fifteen years old. She lives in a tiny apartment in a suburb of Tokyo with her young mother, a hostess at a local dive bar. They have no money, no security. Then Kimiko appears.
Kimiko is older, a bright light in Hana's dark world. Together they set up Lemon, a bar that caters to hostesses and their marks, small-time crooks, men with low morals and deep pockets, and anyone down on their luck. Suddenly Hana has a job she loves, friends to share her days with, and the glittering promise of money. She feels like a normal girl. She feels invincible.
But in the seedy streets of Setagaya, nothing is as it seems. Soon all of Hana's hope, her optimism, and her drive, will be tested to the limt . . .
Twenty years later, Kimiko is on trial. Now Hana must wrestle with her own actions, and face their devastating consequences.
A story of enduring friendship and deep betrayal, Sisters in Yellow is a masterpiece of teenage dreams and adult cruelties that confirms Mieko Kawakami as one of the great writers of her generation.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mieko Kawakami is the author of the internationally bestselling novel Breasts and Eggs, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and one of TIME’s Best 10 Books of 2020, and the highly-acclaimed Heaven, her second novel to be translated and published in English, which Oprah Daily described as written “with jagged, visceral beauty.” Born in Osaka, Japan, Kawakami made her literary debut as a poet in 2006, and in 2007 published her first novella, My Ego, My Teeth, and the World. Known for their poetic qualities, their insights into the female body, and their preoccupation with ethics and modern society, her books have been translated into over twenty languages. Kawakami’s literary awards include the Akutagawa Prize, the Tanizaki Prize, and the Murasaki Shikibu Prize. She lives in Tokyo, Japan.

Ralph McTell - The Farewell Tour
Prepare to be enthralled!
It will be 50 years since Ralph McTell first toured Australia and is now returning for one final farewell tour. The UK musical legend will perform much-loved work from an illustrious career which spans over six decades, armed simply with his songs, his guitar and his stories. The iconic “Streets of London” singer-songwriter will be travelling the country one last time.
Audiences all over the world are still drawn to his timeless classic Streets of London which catapulted him to global fame. The melodic beauty and cold hard truth of the song keeps it, sadly, forever relevant.
An accomplished raconteur, McTell also tells incredible life stories. From hitch hiking with Rod, ‘The Mod’ Stewart, playing Isle of Wight Festival alongside Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, a crap game with Tom Waits in LA, to his Ivor Novello award, an impromptu meeting with the President of Ireland and a trip to the BBC show The Repair Shop with a somewhat ragged kangaroo.
With a life’s worth of writing to choose from, McTell’s audience will be treated to not simply an autobiography of songs and stories, but a reflection of an epoque from a quintessentially English singer songwriter.

Random Rhapsodies
With Betty Nicholson & Lyn Panetta
Brisbane music educators and accompanists Betty Nicholson and Lyn Panetta met in their teens while they were studying music at the University of Queensland, and it was there that they discovered the magic and fun of playing two piano works together.
They have explored many two-piano arrangements from the repertoire and performed Holst’s The Planets at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium in 2022 (Planets, Pianos and Projections) and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition at the Petrie Terrace Art Gallery in 2023 (Pictures, Pianos and Portrayals) as part of both the Anywhere and Brisbane Fringe Festivals. In 2024, they performed a programme of French works for 2 pianos at the Old Museum.
Random Rhapsodies features musical arrangements of Butterworth’s A Shropshire Lad, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Liszt’s Hungarian and Spanish Rhapsodies, Lutoslawski’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini, Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody, and Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Paganini [movements 16-18], all brought to life on two pianos.

Harry Manx - Sold Out
Presented by silver sonic
Harry Manx is returning to Australia with a brand new album to share!
The New York Times called him ‘deliciously addictive’ and said when you listen to Harry Manx ‘you are listening to an original.’ Seven time Maple Blues award winner, Folk Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, six Juno nominations.....welcome to the Harry Zone. Harry Manx has spent years fusing eastern musical traditions with the blues, switching effortlessly between conventional guitars, harmonica, and banjo and the decidedly different Mohan veena, a 20-stringed instrument invented by Manx’ Indian mentor Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
Manx is often referred to as the “Mysticssippi” Blues Man because musically Harry lives where the depth of Indian music meets the deep groove of the Blues. Blend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, add a sprinkle of gospel and some compelling grooves and you’ll get Manx’s unique “mysticssippi” flavour. It’s hard to resist and keeps audiences coming back for more.
Downbeat Magazine said that “Manx’s real talent lies in creating a place where Blues and Indian Classical are a seamless fit”.
Billboard Magazine called Harry “Canada’s most expressive Blues player”.
“Watching Harry play tonight I feel like I learned something new …. ”
Bruce Springsteen (after seeing Harry perform “I’m On Fire” at the International Guitar Festival in NYC)
“Harry’s real skill lays in creating a rare musical place where blues, country, folk and Indian classical music co-exist as some spirit force”
Frank Hadley, Downbeat Magazine

SOLD OUT - Planets
sold out!
Presented by Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra
Metro Concert #1
The Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra’s first concert for their 2026 season traces a journey from the farthest reaches of the cosmos to the earliest voices that walked our own land.
Opening the program, Peter Sculthorpe’s Earth Cry speaks with stark urgency and elemental power. Drawing on indigenous influences and raw orchestral colour, the work is both a lament and a call to attention, prompting us to listen closely to the earth beneath our feet.
John Rotar’s The Starry Messenger, a new work jointly commissioned by BPO and The Australian Voices, then turns our gaze skyward, inspired by the text of early astronomer Galileo Galilei. The concert concludes with Gustav Holst’s iconic The Planets. From the relentless drive of Mars, the Bringer of War to the hushed mystery of Neptune, the Mystic, Holst’s astrological portraits unfold with colour, drama, and imagination, bringing this cosmic journey to a powerful and unforgettable close.
CONDUCTOR: Stefanie Smith
CHOIR: The Australian Voices

Ben Abraham’s (postponed) Christmas Special
with special Guests
The Old Museum is delighted to announce that we have been able to reschedule the concert of award-winning Melbourne-raised, Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Ben Abrahams.
The Old Museum had some technical issues which resulted in Ben's show, originally scheduled for 20 December to not go ahead..
You can now catch the acclaimed artist – whose heart-on-sleeve storytelling has earned him praise from The New York Times and collaborations with the likes of Sara Bareilles, Kesha, Gotye and Demi Lovato – when he lights up The Old Museum on Friday 9 January 2026 at 8pm.
Joined by a few surprise guests (previous years have featured appearances from Vance Joy, Gotye and more), Ben’s (postponed) Christmas Special is split into two sets: the first showcasing the singer’s own original music – from fan favourites such as ‘Never Been Better’ and ‘If I Didn’t Love You’, to songs from his 2022 album, Friendly Fire – and the second half a delightfully unpredictable indie spectacular.
A gifted storyteller with a cinematic touch, Ben first captured hearts with his self-released debut album Sirens – later reissued by indie label Secretly Canadian and hailed by The New York Times as “a debut of remarkable depth.” This set Ben on a path that would see him co-write the GRAMMY-nominated hit ‘Praying’ for Kesha and craft songs for artists such as Demi Lovato and The Chicks.
Bring in the New Year with Ben Abrahams at the Old Museum

Handel’s Messiah (arranged by Mozart)
Presented by Bach Society of Qld Inc
The Bach Society of Queensland has a long tradition of performing George Frideric Handel's wonderful oratorio recounting the narrative of the life, death and resurrection of Christ, Messiah. This year’s performance is a particularly special one for the Bach Society, marking our 50th annual performance of this work.
For this landmark performance, we will be presenting the Mozart arrangement of Handel’s work. The Mozart arrangement was first performed in 1789. Reworking Handel’s characteristically baroque orchestration (deploying a small orchestra consisting of oboes, strings, and a basso continuo of harpsichord, cello, violin and bassoon), Mozart’s adaptation substantially increases the size of the orchestra and makes use of the instrumentation of the symphonic orchestra of his day, including, for example, parts for clarinet, French horn, trombone and flute.
Those who are familiar with Handel’s Messiah will immediately notice the fuller texture and the greater variety in tonal colour that this later orchestration by Mozart brings, along with some notable differences in the distribution of parts of the work between the different soloists and between soloists and choir. For those who are new to the work, the pathos of this re-telling of the story of stories – from joy to anguish, from consolation to despair – offers the possibility of an extraordinary new musical journey.
Our annual performances of Messiah are a highlight of the year for the Bach Choir and we look forward to sharing this very special 50th anniversary performance you.
